What a Yes Holds

You invite people to an event and ask them to commit.
They say yes, and you begin planning around their answers.
As the date gets closer, other priorities come into view.
One person cancels. Then another.
The group becomes smaller until the event no longer feels possible.
You cancel it, left with an uneasy sense of not knowing what the yeses were able to hold.
